Gorilla’s are really good, from what I hear. They can hold aggro very well and if they lose aggro they have a ability to increase threat.
I’ve had a turtle for ages. I just couldn’t be f’d working on another pet. It’s more of a tanking pet, though. I think a turtle is good, maybe you should try one out?
Cats, Scorpids and Devilsaur are the best for DPS.

Core Hound. We have a hunter in our guild who rocks out with his core hound. It’s technically a DPS pet, but at level 80, he is sometimes actually tanking/off-tanking Heroics, because he has enough self heal abilities to counteract what he loses in armor as a DPS pet. Between the self heals and even a mediocre healer focusing on him, they can keep him up easily.
Heck, my level 75 priest was keeping him almost completely topped off throughout regular Violet Hold, and the Druid tank barely got the mobs to look at him.
